Stepping back a few years, when we roughed in the plumbing, we added three PVC pipes, running from the utility room to the outside, passing under the drive and ending at the edge of our property line. The purpose of this was to move the electrical meter and fuse box from the side of the house so we could repair the wall behind it. It would also improve the appearance of the house, as we won’t have any visible cable clutter (electricity and cable internet) on the outside of the house.
We recently met with our electrician, Tom Nash, aka PAN ELDI, to discuss completing the first-floor electrical work. One thing Tom noticed was that we only had one pipe crossing the driveway; see the last photo above. We had photographic proof that they left the house, but I couldn’t find any pictures of them outside. We dug some exploratory holes and found only one pipe.
Eventually I did find a photo, and it showed all three pipes exiting the house, but two of the pipes terminated after about 3′. After digging down about 3′ we did find all the pipes. Why we filled in the trench, having laid only one pipe across the driveway, we’ll never know; maybe we got ill, the weather worsened, or our day-job workload increased.
Digging, by the way, is pretty easy as the ground is very sandy; the killer is the heat- high 80s are a bit unpleasant to do this kind of work in.
We are awaiting the electrician’s approval before we fill in the trench. I did use schedule 40 conduit instead of schedule 80, and if necessary, we can easily replace it with schedule 80. Also, we’d like electricity in the garage, so we’re awaiting how we should go about it, maybe a fourth pipe.
